MANDATORY CONTINUING EDUCATION (MCE) REQUIREMENTS HAVE CHANGED FOR 2016 RENEWAL (ORC 4732.141)

Beginning with the new biennium which begins on September 1, 2014 and ends on August 31, 2016, each license holder is required to have at least four hours of continuing education in one or more of the following areas:

1) Professional conduct;

2) Ethics; and/or

3) The role of culture, ethnic identity, or both in the provision of psychological assessment, consultation, or psychological interventions, or a combination thereof.

The total hour requirement remains 23 hours.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL CE COURSES must be sent to OPA or OSPA for certification before the associations send the hours to the Board. This includes APA-approved courses. Unless you send CE certificates to OPA or OSPA, they will have no way of knowing that the course was completed! The State Board of Psychology does not accept CE certificates directly.

Dual Licensure and Supervisee Registration

“Dual licensure” in school psychology refers to an individual who holds both the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) school psychologist certificate/license and the State Board’s school psychologist license or psychologist license. During its October 22, 2010 meeting, the State Board of Psychology, by unanimous vote, issued a position that dually-licensed school psychologists shall not register with the State Board those trainees receiving supervision toward the ODE school psychologist license. Discussion included comments by members of the State Board emphasizing that registration of ODE trainees is both unnecessary and inappropriate, and raises the risk of confusion of the public, the supervisee, and the supervisor. The process of registering any supervisee with the State Board is an affirmative statement that the supervisee is rendering services under ORC 4732, and engaging in hazardous practices under 4732-5-01, which is inaccurate and misleading for those being trained for the purpose of licensure by ODE.
